Vanesa España-Romero
Dra. Vanesa España-Romero is a Professor at the University of Cádiz, Spain.
She earned her degree and Ph.D. in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences from the University of Granada, focusing on sport climbing physiology. She has authored over 80 publications with over 4,600 citations. As a rock climber and researcher, she has led pioneering studies and participated in over 25 national or international projects. She currently leads the C-HIPPER project on climbing’s physiological and psychological determinants and the SONRIE study on physical activities in natural environments for individuals with depression. Dra. España Romero holds four patents, including one international.
She has supervised numerous doctoral and master’s theses and has been an invited speaker at many conferences. From 2016 to 2023, she served as Vice President and President of the International Rock Climbing Research Association (IRCRA), and since 2019, she has been the President of the C-HIPPER Climbing Research Association. Her extensive international experience has enabled her to establish global collaborations and lead significant research projects.
