Founded in 1993, Ericeira Surf Clube (ESC) is a non-profit sports association dedicated to fostering surfing in the municipality of Mafra. With over 260 athletes from 10 nationalities, 60 young surf learners at the ESC Surf Academy, and 800 associates, ESC plays a key role in developing the local surfing community.
Since 2011, ESC has been the guardian of the Ericeira World Surfing Reserve, the 2nd in the world and the 1st in Europe, appointed by Save the Waves Coalition. ESC actively engages in innovation, education, and business ecosystems, connecting Ericeira’s surfing community with global partners to drive innovation, community well-being, skills development, and sustainability.
Beyond competition and athlete support, ESC drives initiatives in surf culture, adaptive surfing for disabled people, medical and therapy support, and PhD research on surfing sports.
